NOON UPDATE

Hot! Hot! Hot! 100 degrees!

Two more months of this misery for the dogs as they mostly just lie around in the shade during the afternoon "baking" while waiting for sunset, which brings a few hours of relief. The kennel crew/caregiving team members (three full-time employees here all day and one overnight man) will also be glad when summer is over.

Caregiver Bobby puts sunblock on Nikki's light-colored nose.

Erin puts sunblock on Jill's pale nose.

Erin has sunblock all over her fingers as she tries to smear some on Jack's nose.

Late morning rescue from neighbor woman whose husband was planning to shoot the dog if it wasn't gone by the time he got home from work today

What could we do? ... The woman said the big old Black Lab (with a cropped tail) had wandered up to their house down the road a couple of days ago. The woman was considering keeping the dog, who got along well with their kids and their other dog, but then this morning the dog accidentally killed four kittens while trying to play with them. When the husband heard this, he said he would be putting a .22 caliber bullet in the dog's head as soon as he got home from work, so the woman put the dog in the back of her truck and brought him to us. We have no room for him, but somehow we will squeeze him in.

Caregiver Bobby puts a leash on Big Black, whom I had to name quickly
so he could go to the vet for his new arrivals checkup.

One of the kids says goodbye to Big Black.
