NOON UPDATE

Nikki and Rex swap kennels with Russell

Nikki and Rex love to play and chase each other around their kennel, but their kennel was too small. Russell had been sharing a big kennel with Jackie, but after they got into an altercation a few weeks ago, Jackie moved in with Pokey (after Emily, Pokey's former kennel mate, was adopted), and Russell's been alone since then, not really needing a big kennel. Yesterday we put Russell in Nikki and Rex's kennel and Nikki and Rex in Russell's kennel, and everybody's happy.

Russell with Mike waiting to make the kennel switch

Bobby is trying to take Rex and Nikki to Russell's old kennel.

Rex sniffs the ground of their new kennel.

Nikki and Rex cautiously explore their new surroundings.

"We like it," says Rex. Cautious Nikki's still not too sure.

Russell seems to like Nikki and Rex's old, smaller kennel just fine.

Garrett Rhodes, a new temporary summer helper joins us

Garrett Rhodes, a 14-year-old football player who will be starting football practice in a couple of weeks, is getting his first taste of really hard work as a kennel hand/caregiver. So far he's doing a good job and if all works out, Garrett will be able to continue working for Straydog on weekends during the school year.

Garrett Rhodes scrubs Buster and Dixie's pool, while the two dogs wait in the shade.
