NOON UPDATE

Erin's report on yesterday afternoon's vet visit to Dr. Reeves' clinic in Tyler ...

Puppies Autumn and Winter, Indy, Julie and Bobby see the vet

   Puppies Autumn & Winter

We brought Puppy Autumn and Puppy Winter in for their second Parvo/Distemper shots. We also wanted to check on the worm situation with the pups, so we took our microscope in to see if Dr. Reeves thought it was working okay. It wasn't. The doctor says it can't focus, so now we need a repair on the microscope!

The pups are over their hookworms, but Dr. Reeves now saw the parasite coccidia. We have the medicine to treat this. If the pups are adopted this weekend, we can pass along the medicine.

   Indy

Indy is looking great! He had his Rabies vaccine and can go to the park now just like all the other dogs. We'll continue with the worming protocol to catch any baby worms.

   Julie

Julie has a urinary infection. The last two days she's had to go out of her hospital kennel for quick potty breaks about every 15 or 20 minutes, and there's been blood in her urine. The doctor took blood to check her kidneys and gave us some supplements to help her get over the infection. We are adding a lot of extra water in her meals too.

Julie needs her teeth cleaned, so we'll schedule both Indy for a neuter operation and Julie's teeth cleaning sometime in the near future.

   Bobby

Bobby has a fungus on his skin. The dogs with sandy areas who like to spend time in their swimming pools sometimes get a fungus! Bobby loves his swimming pool. He especially likes the cold water, and Tina told me how she has to refresh Bobby's pool twice a day. Bobby will hop into the pool right after Tina puts the hose into it after Bobby's playtime in the park, but Bobby knows whenever Tina doesn't add fresh, cool water, and he won't go in the pool if it isn't cooled down. Bobby also loves to put his nose in the water and blow bubbles, Tina said!

We are to give Bobby anti-fungal baths, and use certain supplements for him. We also have Aloe Gel for his skin.

Yesterday's veterinary expenses at Reeves' Veterinary Clinic, paid for with a check written on our ever-dwindling Operating Fund, which is our only fund, came to $858.20

We picked up the 48 tick collars we had on order ($600 of the $858.20, with our discount).

After we left Dr. Reeves' clinic, we stopped and picked up Katie's ashes from a nearby vet clinic in Tyler that does cremations--another $107.

We would be very grateful for any donations made directly to either of our regular vets. Please be sure to tell them that the donations are to be credited to our Straydog Inc. account:

Bill,

I spoke with you last week, and now I'm writing about your "help" needs. Even though I work in the city, I have a house down in Payne Springs, and I'm down there every weekend. I also have a roommate who is a Systems Admin. We would be happy to come over there this weekend and fix that computer that has the viruses and is giving you issues with the webcams. Just let me know if you want us to come over and send me directions to your location.

Also, I have a "kiddie" pool that was previously used by our lab and is currently not in use. Can you use it there?

Thanks, Vivian! I'll contact you later today; and thanks to the others who sent emails and/or called

Ofelia Gipson, who has volunteered a lot in the past, offered to do thank-you letters. Mary Garrett, who emailed us last week looking for a place for her dog if her illness should incapacitate her, volunteered to come out next Monday to spend a day working on thank-you letters. And several others expressed an interest in volunteering. We thank you all!

I'm going to try posting the Straydog Update at 7:00 p.m. (at least for a while)

I know changing post time will not add more hours to the day, but I'm rearranging the scheduling of my other duties and responsibilities in order to try to squeeze more production out of my daily efforts, and hopefully a seven p.m. post time will allow me to get more done. ... We'll see.
