Georgy had visitors today

Erin reports ...

Lauri and her husband and son had visited our shelter before but finally decided that Georgy was the dog they'd like to adopt (if all went okay with their other dog and inside, declawed 12 year-old cat).

Lauri brought their other dog to meet Georgy this time and everything went okay with the two dogs. Georgy accepted that the little dog would be the dominant one.

The next step is the home visit. I told Lauri we could do this in the next couple of weeks, as she wanted to do it at a certain time when her husband would be home. She wanted her husband to see the interaction with the dogs and kitty. In the meantime, after Lauri left, we introduced Georgy to Star Kitty in the kennel office to see if he could get along with cats. Georgy was interested in Star but not aggressive with the kitty.

Georgy and Rasco get along okay.

Patch goes to vet for stitches out

Patch had firm stools today but yesterday he had diarrhea. I took Patch to get his stitches out today, and after telling the doctor about Patch's recent bowel movements, the doctor said that he might still have some of the fiber from the bed he tore up last week in his intestines. The doctor didn't think he should re-open Patch, but told us to treat his diarrhea symptoms and let's just wait and see if his problem subsides.

After Patch got home from the vet, he enjoyed a playtime in the park, and he was watched closely so he couldn't eat any toys! We got the bill for his recent stomach operation during which Dr. Morton removed a bunch of pieces of rubber and plastic toys. The cost: $1011.50!

Playtime tired this fella out!

Straydog just received the following via email from MAC (Metroplex Animal Coalition):

Please forward this information to any and all animal welfare groups and interested individuals in the area.  We will have more information available shortly.

PetsMart Charities is providing basic supplies to the HSUS/SPCA/LSCPA joint staging area in Baton Rouge through one of their local stores.  But there is still a great need for dog kennels, cages & carriers.  MAC is negotiating a very generous discount from one of the manufacturers locally, but even so this is a very large expense.  Please help us in this effort by donating online at www.metroplexanimalcoalition.org.  James Bias points out that many of the workers in this disaster have suffered great losses and are putting the animals ahead of their family and personal tragedies. It is the very least we can do to support their efforts.

A press release detailing the Animal Recovery & Evacuation Plan for New Orleans has been issued by the Louisiana SPCA and is available on the MAC website at www.metroplexanimalcoalition.org.  This document contains information for people traveling in Louisiana with pets, as well as those evacuating from New Orleans with pets and include several staging points where pets can be dropped off for care by the LVMA or LSPCA.

My dad had kind of a regular day today

While I was there with him this morning, Dad slept most of the time and it wasn't a real peaceful sleep. The physical therapists had already gone through his exercise session with him before I got there, and they said Dad had walked (with help) quite a little bit. I'm going to get there before seven tomorrow morning, because they said Dad seems most alert and wide awake early in the morning, and for that reason they've been taking him to the physical therapy room first thing.
