Bree
Bree is a willful little pup, cute as a button! Lacie saw her at a local kill shelter when the puppy was only six weeks old. Bree was malnourished and needed a vet visit and medicines to save her life, which Lacie did. Volunteer Vicki enjoyed being in Bree's corral today, playing with her. Joanne was always there with paper towels wiping up the cement when Bree would piddle, and many folks who passed by, stopped by Bree's corral to pet her and ooh and ahh over her.

Abby and Tooter's mom and dad visit, and the dad has suggestions for Bree
Abby and Tooter's mom and dad came to Petsmart today and stopped by to tell us all was great with their adopted former Straydoggies (yea!), and the dad (who has studied from Caesar Milan's Dog Whisperer website) had some recommendations for Lacie about Bree's food and treat aggression. He said to be next to the doggie when the doggie is chewing on her toys and when she drops the toy, then pick it up quickly, and then, give it back to her. "You be in control over taking away or giving the dog the treats," he said. If Bree nips at you over the toy or treat, grab the nape of her neck, like the mother dog would do." Maybe we can ask the trainers at Petsmart for more advice if it's needed as well.
Visit from former Petsmart Trainer who has opened a non-profit to help keep dogs in their homes
Early in the day, Laura Darley, a former Petsmart trainer, came over to talk to me. Laura is offering free seminars and follow-ups to folks who may need training for their dogs. She then encourages them to get more in-depth training through longer programs, such as Petsmart's training programs. Laura used to be a full-time trainer, but decided that she did not want money for helping with training, when it could make the difference between the dog staying at the family home, or moving out to the local shelter (and worse), because of behavioral issues. So Laura decided to get an office job to pay the bills, and she now volunteers her time toward training seminars, to help save dogs' lives. Her free seminars are listed on her website at www.dogmentation.org. Thank you Laura, for your dedication to saving doggies through helping folks understand and correct undesirable behaviors.
Thank you again to our wonderful volunteers and adoption day crew
A big thank you to David, Janice, Vicki, Joanne, Todd, little Lucy, Lacie and Roberto for doing all that you did today to help our doggies be comfortable and safe. We appreciate so much your help to make our Adoption Days successful.
