Tina reports ...        Edited and posted by Bill

Mowing the fast-growing grass

The day has turned out pretty good--sunny but windy and cool with the high in the 60s. I wanted to get some mowing done, but with all our other chores and duties we (the members of the kennel crew and caregiving team) haven't had time to do that today. Bill took about an hour out of his very busy schedule to come and mow the park this afternoon, which the dog walker is always very grateful for as it is really difficult to find the dog droppings when the grass is over your ankles. All the rain we continue to have is causing the grass to grow very fast already this year.

This morning was a little cool and it is forecast to be around 36 degrees tomorrow (Monday) morning, so we postponed removing the hay from the dog houses, and we are going to drain the water hoses this evening just in case it gets cold enough to freeze. The weather in the spring is crazy in Texas. One minute it's almost ninety and the next it's almost freezing.

Molly's kind of lost her appetite today

This morning I had a little trouble getting Molly to eat. She didn't want to eat anything, so I sat down with her and hand fed her. She just didn't look like she felt very good, and I noticed she had a hard time getting up on her back legs. She didn't eat it all and she gets Previcox (pain med.) in the morning meal so I wanted to make sure she ate the medicine, so I came in and got some N/F canned food, and she loved it probably because it was something special. She finally ate everything including her dose of Previcox. At this evening's meal she did better, but I had to hand feed her a some of it. I did let Juana know and we will see how she Molly does in the morning.

Fluffy has chewed a hot-spot on her back

While Rhonda was doing park walks this morning, she noticed Fluffy has chewed herself causing a huge sore on her back. I had to cut her hair away a little and clean it because there was dirt caked in the dried blood of the sore. I put Animax on the cleaned area and the sprayed some Hydrocortisone on the sore and then added some bitter apple spray to stop her from licking and chewing. Juana may want to put Fluffy on some Cephalexin (antibiotic) if it gets worse.

Lots of gunfire right at p.m. feeding

Would it be wrong to ask our neighbors very politely to please not shoot guns when we are trying to feed the doggies? We had a hard time getting some of the dogs to eat their food this afternoon. Poor Prince didn't want to come out of his house, and then the gunfire stopped for just long enough for Prince to finish his food, and as soon as he finished he ran right back into the shelter. Goldie was also very scared. Rhonda had to try to hand feed her, but when the gun shots started up again, Goldie shot right back into her dog house like a bullet. Rhonda said she put Goldie's food bowl inside her shelter and she finally ate everything. Trixie wouldn't eat either. Jeff went back to try to feed her without much success, and then I tried, and she ate a little bit. Buster and Dixie are very scared also and if we don't tie or chain their gate closed, they will grab the chain link wire with their teeth and rip the gate open and escape. All I am asking is maybe an hour out of the day from 2:30 - 3:30.

We're already missing our Claudia-girl (now known as Chloe)

As yesterday's update says, Claudia got adopted into a wonderful home, and though we always miss all of our adopted out dogs because we always grow to love them very much, we are very happy Claudia (Chloe).

Mary-dog continues to do well after her TPLO knee surgery 10 days ago

Mary is the first dog we've had in a long time who has not bothered her stitches, and thus she does not have to wear an E-collar, which she hated very much the first day after she got back from the DVSC clinic in Mesquite Friday on Friday the 4th of April. Mary is one of our older doggies and it's going to take her a little longer to completely recover, but she is doing very well.
