Juana reports ...      Edited and posted by Bill

A busy day at Straydog with several vet visits

Today was a busy day for us here at Straydog, and it was a good day. We started out in the morning with some previously scheduled vet appointments for several of our doggies.

JoJo and Little Max2 to be checked out at Eustace Vet Clinic

I had called Dr. Cornelius' vet clinic to ask how much it would cost for him to do JoJo and Little Max's heartworm treatment. For the heartworm treatment Dr. Cornelius charges according to the weight of the dog so it looks like treatment will be less expensive through his clinic for our little Chihuahuas.

JoJo and Little Max2 lie on their bed in the hospital trailer.

The vet tech also told me that they would need to re-test our guys, because depending on how strong the test shows the heartworm, the doctor will determine whether these little dogs will need one shot of the heartworm medicine, or several shots, or the doctor may decide to just put them on heartworm prevention (a certain kind which slowly kills the adult worm or worms, while also killing the larvae the same as all heartworm prevention medicine does). This morning I took both JoJo and Little Max to see Dr. Cornelius (a clinic where they take only walk-ins, no appointments), so we could find out how to proceed with the heartworm treatment.

Juana carries JoJo and Max2 to the van.

I am very anxious to get their heartworm treatment over with because then JoJo and Little Max2 can attend our Adoption Day sessions. I think they will find their forever home quickly. We love all these cute little fellas around, but it will be wonderful when all these Chihuahuas move on to individual families. So we took JoJo and Little Max to the van to make the trip to the Eustace Vet Clinic. We also had Patsy, Travis and Mary-dog in the van as these doggies had appointments at Morton Small Animal Clinic.

When we arrived at Dr. Cornelius' clinic, I didn't see any cars, so I knew something wasn't right. Dr. Cornelius' parking lot is always very full. Sure enough there was a big sign in the window saying the clinic was going to be closed until the 21st of April, so we'll have to wait a few more days to have these little longhair Chihuahuas checked and their treatment started. Next we went on to Morton Small Animal Clinic in Athens.
