Today's vet visits, continued

Puppy Bruno is checked for ear infection

I also took in Pup Bruno, who you all know is Lacie and Roberto's puppy. Every day when Lacie and Roberto are here to work the early evening shift (5-9 p.m.) Bruno and Bree come with them, and they are very good pups. They both get along well with Noble, Cici and the Chihuahua gang. Yesterday evening Roberto told me that Bruno had been shaking his head like his ears were bothering him, and they didn't know if he had an ear infection, so I asked them to leave their "kids" here at the shelter overnight and I would take them to the clinic with me this morning. Bruno was a very good boy. The doctor checked his ears and also did a skin scraping just to double check since Bruno's been having some skin allergies also. Dr. Terry said that Bruno does have some redness in his ears and to apply some Animax down in them and he should be okay. The skin scrapings showed no mange.

   Puppy Duncan gets another checkup

Last but not least was Puppy Duncan, who once again got sick in his crate in the van on the way to the clinic, but he seemed fine when we arrived. Vet Tech Laura came into the exam room and checked him all over. He is way too cute and very sweet, Laura said. I reminded Laura that last Saturday we had brought Duncan in to get his new arrival's checkup and that Dr. Morton had been a little concerned about giving him his vaccines then because of the possibility of Duncan coming down with Parvo (as he seemed lethargic at the time). I don't think he has Parvo because he has been acting like a normal perfect puppy. He doesn't miss a meal, he's been drinking plenty of water, and he hasn't had diarrhea at all, so after three days of no symptoms we took him in to recheck him again to be sure. Laura examined Duncan, and his temperature is normal, his gums have good color, and everything else looked normal. Laura gave him his first puppy shots and a dose of Revolution drops. Dr. Terry came in to listen to his heart and look at his ears and eyes, and everything was just fine. The only thing we have to worry about is treating him for hookworms, which he was wormed for on Saturday.
