Saturday at Straydog

Juana reports ...

Noble wants to attend Adoption Day

Starting early this morning, as every Saturday, we got ready for our Adoption Day trip. Today turned out to be a special morning for diabetic Noble. As soon as Roberto and Lacie got here, Noble started to bark and bark and wanted to be petted, and we could tell he wanted to accompany them to Adoption Day. Noble usually stops barking as soon as he receives the attention that the kids give him, but today was a little different. He just wouldn't stop barking, so they asked me if it would be a good idea to let Noble go with them to Plano. Looking at Noble and seeing that for some reason he wanted to go, I agreed to let him go even though the chances of him getting adopted are very slight because of his medical expenses and the amount of time it takes to care for him and his diabetes. We packed his lunch, or the third meal that he gets, and I asked Lacie to let everybody know that Noble can't get treats like everybody else because of his diabetes. They said they would take care of Noble. Noble was all happy and excited that he was going to go on an adventure today. (The possibility of Noble being adopted is not out of the question, by the way. But it would have to be an individual or family who could both financially afford his diabetes treatment and would have the time to monitor him 24/7/365 the way we have to at Straydog.)

Noble is all ready to go to Adoption Day with Roberto and Lacie.

Bailey is not feeling well

Yesterday at feeding time and today early in the morning we noticed that for some reason Bailey wasn't feeling so good. We could see that one of his legs was hurting him. I checked him over, but I couldn't really tell which leg Bailey was favoring. If I raised up his back leg, the one that he had the tumor removed from, he would kind of cry out trying to favor the front leg. Then I would raise up his front leg and he would do the same with his back leg. One other thing that Bailey would do is kind of arch his back, so I just couldn't tell what was going on with Bailey today. I called Dr. Terry as soon as the clinic opened this morning. The doctor said to try Rimadyl for a couple of days and see if Bailey would feel better. She said we could bring him in on Monday or Tuesday if by then he wasn't doing okay. Again the doctor said that she didn't think it was something to do with his cancer, because as we've already said, his type of cancer is not aggressive and would not give Bailey this kind of pain problem.

Bailey's not feeling so good today.

Duncan shelter gets a shade top

After our morning duties taking care of our kennel work, we had some time to do some weed-eating, mowing and even get a shade board across the top of Puppy Duncan's small temporary kennel by the park. We didn't have much shade area in Duncan's temporary kennel, besides the board that covers his dog house, but today Michael and Wayne took care of this. I put Duncan in the other small kennel, which is right by Johnny and Goldie, while Michael and Wayne were working on Duncan's kennel roof. Goldie and Johnny were very curious about this pup. Duncan was so cute and would bark at them. I put Duncan back as soon as the guys finished with this project.

Wayne and Mike lift another old piece of plywood, placing it on top of Duncan's small kennel.

Goldie and Johnny look at Puppy Duncan, who's temporarily in the little puppy kennel next to Goldie and Johnny's kennel.

Little Max2 and JoJo doing well

Little Max and JoJo are doing very well as they are kept in confinement to stop them from exerting themselves too much, which could cause a dead adult heartworm to clog their lungs and kill them. They both feel ready to have fun, and they really miss their little friends Peppy, Missy and Vern, and they want to run and play with the others, but sorry guys, we can't let you do this now--not till after your heartworm treatment is complete, which will take several more weeks.

Little Max and JoJo have to remain in confinement till they are completely clear of heartworms.
