We leave the new rescue at the clinic for her checkup
It didn't take very long before a vet tech lead us to a room. Dr. Terry came in and said, "We are keeping her, right?" I told the doctor that we wanted to leave the doggie with her for now. We told the doctor the most important details of her rescue. "She is so sweet," Dr. Terry said. Since the dog had already warmed up to me, I walked her all the way to the clinic kennels in the back, where I kissed her and told her that we would be back to get her and take her home to Straydog. She seemed to understand and stayed calmly in her kennel with dogs in other kennels all around her.

The dog is microchipped!
Later on Monday Dr. Terry called to say that the new rescue was negative for intestinal worms, and she was heartworm negative too. And the doctor had discovered that she had already been spayed. "Really?" I asked. Then Dr. Terry told me that she was also micro-chipped. "What!" I said. "Yes, and we have phone numbers where you can reach her guardian owners. Her name is Shadow, and she is five years old," doctor said.
Alisa has been looking and looking for her dog Shadow
Vet Tech Lori gave me several phone numbers for a lady named Alisa H., who is the guardian/owner of Shadow. I called the first number, and it went to voice mail. A man answered the second number, and I asked if he knew of a dog named Shadow. He said, "Yes, how do you know that?" I told him that we had rescued a dog, who happened to be micro-chipped and I was calling to find out if she was his dog. The man said, "Yes, yes, Alisa is my daughter and you wouldn't believe how much she has been looking for her. It has been a year since Shadow went missing. Is she really alive?!" I told him that she was and he couldn't believe it. He said, "For real?" I told him that she was alive and well and that she was in good hands and that she was currently at our vet clinic, where we got all this information from the micro-chip. He said he would call his daughter right away, and he was sure she would be extremely happy. He told me that we had made Alisa's Christmas, that we wouldn't believe how hard she had been looking for Shadow all this time. The man went on and on. We understood as we would feel the same way too.
Shadow, who had been prone to seizures, had fallen off Alisa's truck last November
Alisa called me, and you can't imagine the thrill in her voice. She was so excited, just knowing that her dog had been rescued, after these 13 long months of waiting to see if she was still alive somewhere. According to Alisa, Shadow had begun having seizures when she was a pup, and she had been on a high daily dose of Phenobarbital. Alisa thought the dog must have had a seizure and fallen from the back of her truck about a year ago. Alisa had searched and search for the dog and had put up all kinds of flyers, trying to find her. But, nobody had ever called. After months of not knowing what had happened to the dog, Alisa just couldn't believe that Shadow was alive and doing well. I told her that she was alive and well and in good hands now. I told Alisa that Shadow had been fed by several nice people at The Dallas Morning News for many months now, and that after they'd rescued her, we took her in last night and that today we found out that she belonged to someone--Alisa.
Reunion between Alisa and Shadow to happen at 7 a.m. Tuesday, December 9th at Morton Small Animal Clinic!
Alisa told us all about her dog Shadow and how amazing it is that this special dog made it through the year out on her own. Shadow had fallen from Alisa's truck in November of 2007, wow! Alisa wanted to drive over tonight to Morton Clinic to get her dog. But since the clinic closed at 6:00, the dog would have to spend one more night away from her guardian/owners. Tomorrow morning bright and early, at 7:00 when the clinic opens, Alisa said she would be there to get her baby. Bill and I are planning to be there to get some photos of this amazing family reunion.
