Puppy Jimmy was adopted Saturday!

Jimmy is adopted, and a new pup named Bessie joins us

Puppy Jimmy has a wonderful new home!

Three-month-old Black Lab mix Jimmy was adopted at yesterday's Adoption Day in Dallas, and now Jimmy has a wonderful new family and a new dog friend.

Tina, one of our employees, who volunteers during one of her two days off to help with Adoption Day in Dallas, made the home visit with Guy to make sure Jimmy and the couple's older dog would get along okay together. All went beautifully they said. And Tina happily explained about the nice new home Jimmy now has and what a pampered house pet he will be and how much fun the two dogs had playing together during the time Tina and Guy spent with the family. Hurrah for Puppy Jimmy!

One puppy leaves our Happy Home for Strays, and almost immediately another puppy join us

Also on Saturday a woman named Karen called me and told me the story of a pathetic little stray puppy she had found with a tight make-shift "noose" hanging around her neck. The "noose" was so tight it had rubbed the skin of the puppy's neck raw, and sores were beginning to develop. Karen saw the puppy at a construction site, and she couldn't bear to ignore the forlorn, frightened little puppy as she was driving on her way to work. Even tho she knew there was no way she could keep the puppy, Karen stopped and rescued her.

Karen knew about our shelter because she is a friend of the family who adopted Chocolate Lab Daniel (who by the way is happy as can be at his new home), so Karen called us to see if we could take in the pup.

Needless to say we are full, but Jimmy's adoption yesterday opened up a kennel spot for this puppy, and I told Karen we could help her.

Little "Bessie" joined us this afternoon

Karen brought the pup (whom she had already named Bessie), and what a cutie Bessie is. She'll be going to the vet clinic first thing tomorrow morning for a checkup and her shots.

Pat holds Bessie as Karen (the rescuer) pets the pup.

Bessie watches her rescue mom leaving.

Because Bessie started fussing right away after we left her alone in her kennel, and because Puppy Pepsi has already had all his vaccinations, we went ahead and put Pepsi in with Bessie, and they're having a grand time.

Pepsi and Bessie tussle and have a great time together.

Pepsi chases Bessie around the kennel.

"Fido" (whose name will be published after Christmas) has now been officially adopted

"Fido," who is going to be a Christmas present for a young boy, is going to be a wonderful surprise! We will be keeping "Fido" at our shelter for the family until Christmas day, when the family will drive out to Straydog to pick up "Fido."

The mom and dad who adopted "Fido" came to our Adoption Day yesterday, and they talked with Tina (an employee caregiver/kennel team member at Straydog and one of our volunteers at Adoption Day) about "Fido," wondering what kind of toys the dog liked to play with. Tina told the mom and dad all about the type of toys "Fido" likes, and Tina said that when she saw the couple as they were checking out, their cart was FULL of dog toys, dog food, a Big dog bed and everything else imaginable for this special Christmas present!

We'll report more on this Christmas surprise on Christmas day.
