Yet another rescue!

Doodle Bug

I just got back from town with groceries AND ANOTHER DOG! It's a Wal-Mart parking lot stray puppy dog about seven months old, who was running up to every person, pawing at them wanting them to stop and help her, but everyone just shoved and shooed her away and kept on walking, and then the pup would run to another person. I had just walked out of the store when I saw the big pup in the distance several rows of cars away from me, and I asked an employee who was also just outside the store (taking a smoke break) if he had seen the pup come with an owner, and employee said, no, he had seen the pup run from the vacant lot by the store and into this parking lot.

Our dog van was parked far away from the stray, who was now heading through the parking lot toward the road, so I just left my cart full of groceries and supplies by a light pole, grabbed my purse and took off running after the dog, who was still trotting up to every passerby, even tho they each totally ignored the pup's presence. All the time the pup was getting closer and closer to the road. (It's hard for me to believe that no one would stop to help the little dog!) I was still too far away for the pup to hear me calling to her, but finally when the she stopped by another person who hurriedly got into her car and was beginning to drive away, I was able to get close enough to the big pup for her to hear my "Here, doggie-doggie!" Finally she turned and looked my way, and when I called her again, she came running to me as fast as she could. I knelt down and she flew into my arms.

I picked the Black Lab mix puppy dog up, and she began giving me slurpy puppy-dog kisses as I carried her the 200 yards (or so) back to my shopping cart. The cart was so full of dog supplies there was no room for the pooch, who was now beginning to feel quite heavy, so I stopped a passerby on his way into the store and asked if he'd push my cart to our van for me so I could carry this rescued pup, which he nicely did. As soon as we got to the van I put the pup in one of the traveling crates, loaded the car with supplies, and home we came.

Now new doggie, who has been named Doodle Bug by one of our employees, is in the kennel with Krissy. The new pup seems healthy, and I'll be taking her to the vet tomorrow first thing in the morning. Krissy accepted this big pup right away, and they're having a good time together.

Beautiful Krissy, mother of Pepper and Pepsi

Tomorrow I'll take new doggie, Doodle Bug, to the clinic, and we'll also be trying to find her owner.

     Geesh!

LATE AFTERNOON UPDATE:

Doggie Dallas is adopted!

Dallas (on the right) doing his little dance when he first met Kalli in the park back in September. Kalli moved in with Dallas for a while before she was adopted, and Dallas has been living alone ever since.

Yea!! DALLAS (the dog) is ADOPTED!!

This is such wonderful news! Pam Bollinger and her husband, Gary, who paid us a visit yesterday wanting to adopt a dog to become a companion fellow for their dog, Maggie, called with their decision tonight. Of the several dogs we mentioned they were interested in yesterday, they decided on Dallas. Knowing what compassionate people Pam and Gary are, I have a feeling they chose seven-year-old Dallas because they knew how much more he needed a loving home than the others.

The official adoption hopefully will take place the 11th of January (2003). It all depends, of course, on whether Maggie and Dallas get along with each other. But the two dogs are both such sweet fellas that we all feel confident they will take an instant liking to each other.

This is a dream come true for Dallas! He could never have found a more wonderful new mom and dad than Pam and Gary.

We'll keep you posted. (And thank you, Pam and Gary!)
