Heather comes back from the vet clinic to our Happy Home for Strays

This photo of Heather was taken at 8:10 a.m. (as you can see on Pat's watch) the morning we rescued Heather, Monday, January 13, 2003.

Pretty German Shepherd Heather (found at our driveway entrance early this Monday morning) came home from the clinic today, following her spay surgery yesterday. This is her first full day at our Happy Home for Strays (after being here for just a few hours Monday before we took her to the clinic), and she made herself right at home in her kennel. Guy stayed with her for a while to help her feel at ease in her new surroundings, and later in the day when employee Joel was with her, Joel announced over the walkie-talkie that Heather seemed to be feeling very good because she was very spunky and playful, and she really likes her hay-filled dog house!

Good News!

Millie's mom loves Millie so much she's trying very hard to make things work out with Millie at her home

We received an email message today from Millie's mom saying that she doesn't want to return Millie (which yesterday she thought she would have to do because of Millie being quite destructive in the house when left alone), and the mom is trying really hard to work these problems out. She added that Millie is such a loving, sweet dog and so well behaved when she is home with her that she wants to continue working with her special furry friend to solve the separation anxiety problems. So, Millie will not be coming back to our shelter as we reported yesterday. The mom will keep in close touch with us to let us know how things are working out. This is really good news.

Adopted dog, Melissa, is doing just fine at her new home

Melissa was the Surprise Christmas present on Christmas day for the sons in her new family. All is just fine, said the dad, when he gave me the happy update on Melissa by phone, adding that the whole family loves Melissa very much!

Old Davey is doing beautifully!

This is one very sweet dog. New arrival, Davey, who is around 12 to 14 years old, has adjusted really well to his new home here with us, and today there was happy "tail wagging" from the fellow for the very first time!

Davey's personality

We're slowly finding out a little bit more about Davey's personality. He likes all of the women who work here but shows fear of some of the men. He loves Guy tho, no doubt about that! And the men that Davey is leery of always take it slow and easy with this type of fearful dog. They will kneel down by the outside of Davey's kennel and talk quietly to him and offer him a dog biscuit through the fence. It usually doesn't take long for a frightened dog to warm up to a soft-spoken, treat-bearing person the dog fears (and we all realize that the dogs who do fear certain people, do so because of what has happened in the dog's past).
