(1) Rabbits
living in and under the barn and the shed are making the dogs
crazy;
(2) Dogs are barking because David Rentz is getting Natasha, Ozzy and Aerial into the van for Adoption Day;
(3) Bobby continues to hang in there and won't give up. Snowball is with him in H2 keeping Bobby going. He's not ready to give up yet though he's in a lot of pain.
(4) David Ford is back on day shift after more than a year on the overnight. He's doing very well and all the dogs are glad to see him in the light of day;
(5) Baby Kitty Spike is doing well. She spends the morning in the small outside kitty kennel and comes in H1 to a crate when the day gets too hot;
(6) Brian went to the clinic for surgery yesterday. He had a knot (or bump) on his rear end that was cancerous, and Dr. James Morton wanted to remove it as soon as possible. The tumor will be sent to the lab to be sure the doctor got it all. He'll come home this morning.
(7) Leo stayed at the clinic again last night on IVs including antibiotics for a respiratory infection. Unfortunately Leo's white cell count went up even with the strong antibiotics, but his x-rays are clearer than the day before. The clinic is sending his x-rays to a radiologist to read. Dr. Morton sent Leo's blood work to a lab also. If Leo doesn't get better soon, we would like to take him to Dr. Porterpan for a diagnosis.
(8) The R-word again! We think that Ebony has several ringworm fungus sores. She and her kennel mate Nelson (who doesn't have any sores are now in quarantine. This could once again be very expensive for Straydog if it spreads.
(9) We got tarps put up over four more kennels yesterday. They're heavy, and it takes two people to pull them tight and fasten them to the kennel fencing.
(10) The Whites (Joe and Carol) visited yesterday (as they do at the beginning of every month). They brought some goodies and a nice donation. They saw Belle's puppies and we got a photo of them holding the pups.
(11) Archie neuter incision looks good, but he's still wearing his E-collar because he's somewhat swollen.
(12) Noble went to the Animal Ophthalmologist Clinic at 2 p.m. Dr. Baldwin says he's looking much better, and she told us to cut down on the amount of eye drops. He goes again next Thursday at 2:15. (Friday's visit: $97; last Tuesday's visit $260.)
(13) Baby Emma came to visit and she just loves the dogs. Unfortunately some of them don't know what a baby is, and they bark at her.

Thursday, April 12, 2012
The Thursday Evening Report was recorded Friday Morning and is
called the Friday Morning Report.
* Lots of dogs went to Morton Clinic this afternoon. Dr. Terry kept her afternoon schedule completely clear for Straydog. Both Juana and Lacie had to make this vet visit so that they could keep taking in dogs and bring them back to the van after their visits and snap photos of the entire event. This big vet visit has increased our balance once again at Morton Clinic. PLEASE HELP so we can continue taking to the clinic the dogs who need care.
* Zack has sores again on his abdomen that don't look like ringworm, but to be sure we took him to the vet today. Dr. Terry used her black light, and the sores didn't show up like ringworm, but she wants us to treat him with Conofite just in case, along with his other topical ointments for his other sores.
* Jackson went to the clinic because of his limp. He had a TPLO knee surgery done back in 2007 on his left knee. Jackson was having some problems with his right knee back then, but Dr. McDonald (the DVSC surgeon) said Jackson might get by without further surgery until the right knee got bad, which is now the case. Dr. Terry diagnosed Jackson's problem as a torn ACL, and here we go again! Now both kennel mates Lady-dog and Jackson have torn ACLs. Good news is that Jackson does not have hip dysplasia.
* Crew members have reported that Luis has some sores, but they look more like scratches from playing too hard with his sister Soulie. We are treating him with antibiotic ointment and won't take him to the vet now.
* Bailey and Ike enjoy their mornings together till the day gets too hot. Then Bailey comes inside to his H2 kennel.
* Jazzie, for the second year in a row, is starting to lose hair in spots on her legs, especially her forelegs. Last year Dr. Morton diagnosed it as staph infection. Dr. Terry saw Jazzie today and thinks it's either allergies or a thyroid problem. We'll wait for the thyroid test results.
* Becky's also been missing hair in places. The results of her thyroid blood test show she is having thyroid problems and will take the appropriate medicine. She will go to the clinic for a follow-up recheck in a month.
* Snoopy got over-heated today outside and didn't look very well so Lacie patted him down with a cold wet towel, and right away he came back to his normal self.
* Natasha has been lonely since Boogie was adopted Saturday, so we try her with the two newly rescued pups, Aerial and Ozzy. We introduced the three of them yesterday, and Natasha didn't like Aerial and Ozzy. We tried them together again today, and Natasha was standoffish at first, but later all three started getting along, and now Natasha is in a kennel with Aerial and Ozzy. These two still have to be fixed, and then as they become more socialized, they will be able to start going to Adoption Day. Ozzy and Aerial got their second puppy shots today and have both gained a lot over the past two weeks.
* New employee Miguel is doing a good job and has been accepted by all the dogs as they allow him into their kennels to work.
* Lindsey gets a swimming pool in her kennel, and she has no fleas, thank goodness and thanks to Comfortis, which is very expensive but really is working on several of the dogs.
* We've started bleaching the kennels to kill fleas and stay ahead of any possible future outbreak of ringworm. We're also bleaching the parks and the walkways.
* Spring Cleaning Project starts tomorrow, Thursday. This entails taking the winter front boards off the shelters, pulling out all the old hay, cleaning, washing and scrubbing the dog houses, making sure all black widow spiders are found and killed.
* Bobby is moving very, very slow. He walks across to the park with Snowball, and while she runs around sniffing and having fun, Bobby just sits and waits for her to go back to their kennel. It's very sad and depressing watching these old doggies go down hill, but they had a lot of good years here at Straydog, and we just have to help the old fellas as much as we can.
* Champ came home from the clinic today. As you'll remember he aspirated some vomit while under anesthetic for the procedure to open his urethra yesterday, and the doctor was afraid to let him come home last night. Today at the clinic we could hear Champ barking when we were in the back x-ray room right next to the clinic kennels, and he was up wagging his tail and ready to come home. So he's back to himself again, and he was very happy to be going back home to Straydog.
Tuesday, April 10, 2012 (6
min, 31 sec)
Juana and Bill talk about what happened Tuesday at Straydog.
* Happy Birthday to our dear volunteer, Polly! We've missed you the past few weeks!
* Reggie goes to vet to get his eye checked, and he's healed up well, and when he's finished his eye drops, he's clear.
* Rudy has an ulcer on his eye. For at least five years Rudy has had "dry eye" and has been given eye drops because he can't produce his own tears. Dr. Terry thinks we caught Rudy's ulcer early and with a new eye drop he should clear up soon.
* Champ went to see Dr. Terry today also. He has bloody loose stool, so something's wrong there. Also since the malignant tumor was removed from Champ's penis, every 10 days or so he can't urinate because everything closes up on him. Dr. Terry then has to do a procedure on Champ, and he's good for a while. But today Champ vomited while under sedation, and Dr. Terry had to wake him up quick, and he's not ready to come home tonight.
* Belle sees the doctor about discharge after having pups. Doctor prescribes antibiotic. Her babies arc all well, and she seems happy.
* Noble's back on a stable BSL, and we just keep trying.
* Lots of diarrhea, and doctor thinks it's a virus and not the food.
Monday, April 9, 2012 (8
min, 7 sec)
Lacie and Bill talk about what happened Monday at Straydog
* Nice weather after Sunday night's rain. Sunny with temps in lower 80s.
* Somehow an adult bird got inside Hospital One during the night, and the morning crew and the H1 dogs spent 15 minutes trying to catch the bird before finally getting it to fly out the door.
* Goldie along with Pokey had to move out of the H1 back hall kennel over a week ago so that Belle could have her pups in a really safe place. But Goldie doesn't like her kennel in Hospital Two, and has been trying to dig out of Part Two during every potty break. She did escape once and got underneath Hospital One trying to get back to her old back hall kennel in H1. She's just going to have to wait till the puppies are big enough to move outside.
* Belle went to the vet today because of her fowl smelling discharge. X-rays showed no unborn babies, and her bloodwork was good except it showed that there was infection somewhere, so Dr. Terry prescribed an antibiotic (Clavamox) that won't hurt Belle's babies. All nine of Belle's babies are doing fine.
* Lots of diarrhea. Champ's got it bad too, and Lacie talks about his penis being closed shut, requiring a trip to the vet Tuesday morning.
* The two most recent medium-size pup rescues are very hard to walk on leash. They're coming out their shells and are not so skittish. They will be going to vet for second set of puppy shots soon.
* Brian's sores (which come and go over the past several months) are coming back again.
* James finished repairing the three or four sections of fence that blew down during a recent storm.
* Jazzie has the same kind of sores appearing on her legs (with the hair around them falling out) that she suffered from last year, when it was diagnosed as staff infection.
* More on Brian that may have missed the Tuesday Audio Report, which was posted before this one. He's been put on antibiotics for two weeks, and we'll do a follow-up visit to Dr. Terry then.
Sunday, April 8, 2012 (7
min, 32 sec)
Lacie and Bill talk about what happened Sunday at Straydog.
* Day started out
warm and sunny, but then at afternoon feeding time the storm hit
disrupting everything.
* Lots of dogs have
to come inside during the storm. Some take the sedative ACE, which
makes them drowsy for a few hours.
* New Mother Belle
doesn't seem to be feeling well. She had diarrhea and continues
with an abnormal discharge.
* Belle did eat but
looks very skinny. Her pups are doing well and look like "little
fat balls" and are getting off their bed.
* Belle will probably
go see the doctor Monday morning.
* Our other pregnant
rescue, Sable, who should have her pups in two to three weeks,
likes outings in one of our temp kennels.
* Several dogs have
diarrhea and will need to be wormed again, which is scheduled
for next week.
* Natasha is sad
and lonely because Boogie was adopted yesterday. She gets several
new toys and has fun with them.
* Jackson's left
hind leg seems to bow out, and he's started falling as he runs.
Not eating well, which is unusual.
* Other than the
storm it was a very good day.
Saturday, April 7, 2012 (11
min, 5 sec)
Juana and Bill talk about what happened Saturday at Straydog.
* Beautiful,
warm day (temps in high 70s and lower 80s); this is hot for the
dogs, and they're panting. They like 55 degrees.
* Saturday
Adoption Day in Plano; Next week we attend a special event--The
Guitar Show in Dallas.
* Jackson
attends Adoption Day along with Boogie, Snickers and Puppy Natasha,
and Boogie was adopted!
* Juana
talks about how Dr. Terry rescued Boogie and took care of him;
Straydog fostered him for her; now adopted!
* Zack's
sores on his abdomen are clearing up; he's completely over the
pancreatitis he had two months ago.
* Family
sees us on Petfinder and visits Straydog this morning looking
for a White Lab for their father.
* Blondie
is the right breed, but too hyper. Snowball would have been okay,
but she has to stay with Bobby.
* The Chihuahua
Gang (now the H1 Gang as only two are Chihuahuas--Bitty and Poppie)
love to stay in the park.
* The H1
Gang Members all go to the park together, and they love the warmer
weather.
* Ebony
is doing fine on Phenobarbital and has had no more focal seizures.
* New Mother
Belle is doing fine and taking good care of her nine babies. Lots
of people are hitting
Belle's
video.
Friday, April 6, 2012 (8
min, 17 sec)
Juana and Bill talk about what happened Friday at Straydog.
* Becky goes
to Morton Clinic where they do a biopsy on the strange black spots
on Becky's skin; results to come.
* Amy goes
to clinic for an ear infection.
* James
has begun repairing a section of our wooden fence that blew down
in a recent storm.
* Joey
has recovered well from his knee surgery with Dr. Wingo.
* Dr. Terry
heard back from Dr. Barstad (the surgeon at DVSC) who received
x-rays of Rex's knee from Dr. Terry. Dr. Barstad's instructions
are to begin walking Rex every day on leash, increasing the length
of Rex's walks every day.
* New Mother
Belle and her 9 pups are doing well. She's an excellent mother.
* Little
Poppy is still coughing. She really loves Lucy, who volunteered
again today.
* Waiting
on Dr. Porterpan's suggestions for Noble after emailing her a
log of Noble's latest blood sugar level readings.

NOTE: Because we didn't think anyone was listening, on June 16, 2007 we discontinued (for the next four and a half years) doing these daily audio reports, which we called radio shows because we were broadcasting them live on the Internet as we were recording them . Now that we've learned how to monitor the statistics on how many visitors to our website click on what, we see that a lot of visitors were clicking on the "shows," and these brief audio reports are the only way we can even begin to keep up with telling our website visitors about the daily events at Straydog within no more than 24 hours after they happen.
The last show we posted four and a half years ago:
Friday, June 15, 2007 (8 Minutes)
We also used to do the daily shows in Spanish as well as English:

(Both shows were broadcast live on the internet while being recorded Friday evening between 7:30 and 8 p.m.)
You can listen to any of the older radio shows, which we started posting on July 8, 2005, by going back to those Homepages by plugging in the dates manually or by scrolling back via the PREVIOUS UPDATES links.
The following are the first two shows we posted links to:
*Straydog Radio Show of Friday, July 8, 2005 - 5 A.M. - (20050708AmShow.mp3)
