Cloudy day with a full crew at Straydog
The day started out kind of cloudy. Then we got some sprinkles, and it was a little breezy, and then it was hot again. We had a full crew and a new employee named Jim. Jim and James R. are two of our newest employees, and we will see how this goes. We didn't have any emergency trips to our vet, which is always a good thing.
Trying different matches with Travis, Mario, Dudge, Nancy and Joe
We've been thinking about possibly separating Travis and Mario because they are both males, and off and on they get into scuffles. It hasn't been anything major yet. But we are afraid of what could happen if it continues, and we'll have none of that. After mulling it over, we decided that we could try Brownie with Mario. But what about Pup Dudge? He is so very sweet, and Nancy and Joe are very sweet puppies too. So we decided to try them together today during park visits. If we were lucky, Dudge could kennel with Nancy and Joe. That would be great. If that worked out, we could probably then try Brownie with Mario. As everybody knows, we really don't have any kennels available, and that's why we must continue to try to adopt out some of these doggies and get them into good homes. So, we decided to try moving kennel mates around, and we brought Nancy and Joe to the park first. Then we went to get Pup Dudge too.
Joe won't stop barking at Dudge, so this match won't work
At the beginning and during their first sniffing, everything looked okay. Nancy just wanted to kiss Dudge and started playing right away. Dudge didn't make any signs of aggression. Joe was barking, but he wasn't upset, so we let the three of them off their leashes for a while, knowing that they are puppies and more than likely there would be no aggression. After they started running and playing, Joe continued to bark and bark and bark at Dudge. Dudge didn't really respond to the barks. Nancy was just following handsome Dudge everywhere he went. But Joe continued barking and finally Dudge showed Joe a little teeth, but Joe didn't care. This continued for a while and Joe never quit barking. He didn't attack Dudge, but he wouldn't leave him alone either. So this wouldn't be good. Joe was jealous, and if Dudge wanted to, he could hurt Joe. So we put an end to this. We put them back on their leashes and walked them back to their separate kennels. Brownie was happy that this didn't work out. She has really enjoyed having Dudge with her. After Ed's dad came to Straydog to claim Ed, Brownie became very lonely.
