Only in the 90s today
It
was another very warm day, although it didn't feel as hot today
as it has for the past week. It only got up to the high 90s.
And it was another day of doctoring the dogs with ringworm.
We didn't have any emergencies, but we did have two dogs who had
to go to Morton Clinic, and we did have a big scare with Fluffy
and her surgery.
Fluffy and Scottie are dropped off at Dr. Morton's
This morning Scottie and Fluffy needed to be dropped off at Morton Clinic for a 9:00 appointment. David got the dogs from their Hospital Two kennel and helped them into the van and he headed to the clinic.

Scottie's big tumors are removed
Scottie went to Morton Clinic this morning to have two big masses removed that we'd found on his back right leg last week. After discovering the masses last Thursday, we took Scottie to Morton Clinic on Friday, to have Dr. Terry examine them. Dr. Terry said she thought that they needed to removed and she set up an appointment for Scottie for this morning. He was going to have both big masses removed before they got any bigger. After the surgery, Dr. Terry called and said that it had gone well and she had removed both masses very easily. She said that he was ready to come home. James went to pick up Scottie from the clinic, and when he got back with Scottie, he had to carry the big dog inside to a kennel in Hospital One, where he will be staying while he recovers from surgery. James set Scottie down, but he was still having problems getting up and walking because he was still in pain and that leg was still sore. Scottie started doing better towards the end of the afternoon. I think that he will recover and do just fine. He is such a strong boy.

Fluffy has complications and needs to stay at the clinic
Fluffy was going to Morton Clinic this morning to have a big knot on the side of her neck removed. Fluffy has had this knot for a few months now, but it's gotten bigger recently. An early biopsy indicated that it was not malignant, but Dr. Terry thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and remove it, before it got any bigger. Fluffy's surgery didn't go as well as Scottie's. Dr. Terry called and said that Fluffy couldn't wake up from the surgery and that her heart had completely stopped. As Dr. Terry was telling Juana this, the vet tech came in and told Dr. Terry that amazingly Fluffy's heart had started again. Dr. Terry and the vet tech finally got Fluffy to wake up. But when the dog woke up, she didn't seem to be herself. She didn't know where she was, and she seemed completely out of it. Dr. Terry called back to tell us that they wanted to keep Fluffy overnight. The doctor and vet tech Kimberly would be checking on her throughout the rest of the day and night. Dr. Terry also said that she would call us and give us an update in the morning, letting us know how Fluffy was doing. If anything bad happened, she planned to contact us immediately, even if it was during the night. Poor Fluffy-girl really gave us a scare and we hope that she will pull through this. We aren't ready to lose another precious dog.
Lots of brushing during caregiving today
Today we did a lot of caregiving and brushing. Wayne caregave and brushed all of the Hospital Two dogs. And Tina and Sherri started caregiving all of the outside doggies who were free and clear of ringworms. A lot of the dogs needed to be brushed, and they all needed attention. They have all been really sad, because they're not getting very much attention with all of the ringworm around here. We have to quarantine the dogs with ringworm, and they are all very sad. We can't give the dogs as much attention as we normally do. But early in the ringworm epidemic, when we tried to maintain our normal routine and give our regular daily caregiving to the infected dogs, it only seemed to be helping to spread the ringworm fungus. Today the ringworm-free dogs were very happy to receive caregiving and they really needed the brushing.

Lloyd has a rash on his tummy
Today we noticed that Lloyd had a very big rash on his tummy. It didn't look like ringworm. It looked like ant bites or an allergic reaction. We gave Lloyd some Benadryl, and we'll see if that helps him. He has been doing so well after his heartworm treatments, and he's had a full recovery. Lloyd has really adjusted to life here at Straydog, and he's doing very well. He really seems to like it here with us. He has also proved to us that he is a very smart boy. Lloyd now knows how to sit, shake, and even lie down. It didn't take Lloyd very long at all to learn these tricks. Lloyd is such a great, loving, smart, cute, big dog. Hopefully he will find his individual forever home soon.
