We lost our Shawny-girl tonight. She's with Miss Pat and running and playing. Our hearts are breaking, but we can't thank you enough for rescuing her and giving us more than seven wonderful years with our sweet girl. God bless you all!

Dear Straydog,
Thank you so much for everything you did for Shawna. We are forever grateful to you. She was a special girl, and we miss her very much. I am including an obituary I did for her as well as some photos. I especially like the "Mom, there's no frogs" sad face picture. It was the look that she gave whenever we went outside during the day.
With much love,
Dianna
(Shawna's mom)

After a life
well-lived, Shawna ("Shawny Girl"), our sweet and loving
mixed breed, passed on on December 16, 2011.
Not much is known about Shawny's early life, but she had the good
fortune of being rescued by Straydog. There, she was treated for
heartworm, nurtured back to health and enjoyed a few years
in the company of devoted caregivers who gave her a second chance
at life.
On the day
I met her, I had visited Petsmart on an errand; I was not looking
to adopt at all. Luckily, I mistakenly turned into the aisle where
Straydog had set up for adoption day and was met by Shawna's big
brown eyes. It was love at first sight, and I knew we were meant
to be together. From that point on, we had the privilege of being
Shawna's family.
It is difficult to describe life with Shawna--what a girl she
was! Shawny was gentle, lovable and always happy. She was a cuddler,
always full of kisses and "pet me" pokes. She never
met a stranger and was particularly good with kids. She loved
to lie in the window and sun herself in the summer. Belly
rubs were her favorite, and she would use her paws to help you
find the exact spot that she wanted to be petted. She loved to
talk, and in her later years, she learned how to sing from her
doggie sister.
We adopted Shawna on September 11, 2004, and for seven years and
three months we enjoyed Shawna's good nature and her mischievous
antics. We will cherish the laughs she gave us the time we couldn't
figure out why our new vegetable garden wasn't taking, only to
find that she had been eating it the whole time; when she brought
her mommy rabbits from the yard as special gifts; her insistence
on sitting on mom's foot in obedience school each and every time
she was given a command; and her incurable obsession with frogs.
Each night she looked forward to sunset so that she could lie
nose-to-nose with her newfound friends.
Shawny Girl was the ultimate companion, loyal friend, and gentle
dog. She was deeply loved by her parents; brother; doggie brother,
Jack, and sister, Poly; grandparents and doggie cousins. We
are very grateful to Straydog for caring for Shawna in her early
years and bringing us together.
We will forever miss our sweet girl.
