FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1999 - Puppy Annie begins to socialize with other dogs

Baby Annie is not a baby anymore! This little one is growing fast and now weighs close to 14 pounds. Because Annie is big enough now to have a playmate, we've been trying to figure out who would be a good doggie friend for her to play with, so that she will at least have a doggie companion for part of the day. Because all of the other dogs at Straydog (our Happy Home for Strays) are so much bigger and older than little puppy Annie, we had to wait until she grew up a bit before placing her with a companion.

Now this little tyke is a tussling, tumbling, happy-go-lucky, BIG-enough pup who needs a doggie friend.

My idea of introducing Annie to sweet little two-year-old Susie (the Border Collie mix) didn't work out so well. We put Susie with Annie in the big play yard for their initial introduction, but Susie did not want to have anything to do with this frisky puppy who immediately tried to chase Susie around and bite her legs and pull on her long, fluffy tail. Right away Susie wanted to go back to her kennel to be with her big buddy, Sir Anthony--a "regular big dog."

Next Randy had the brilliant idea of trying Bailey with Annie. Bailey is a two-year-old Beagle/Hound mix and is very playful and gentle and still has a lot of puppy playfulness in him. (Bailey is also the great frisbee player.)

Bailey and Annie make the perfect match!

This worked out Great! We brought Bailey to the big play yard to meet little Annie, and they became best friends immediately. Off they went, running around and playing together. How cute little Annie was with her new doggie friend, and Bailey was having a great time too with this playful, little rolly-polly puppy.

Bailey and Little Prince have been kennel companions for more than a year now, and we don't want to break up that friendship, so we will "borrow" Bailey for short periods every day so he can be with Annie. (We always "borrow" a paired-doggie to be a part-time friend for the "single fellas" until they are either adopted out or until a companion comes along for them.)

Little Annie is ready for adoption to a loving home. She is an adorable, playful, healthy little puppy. She may be part Australian Shepherd and has soft, fluffy, black fur with a white chest and tips of white on her paws. She is close to three months old now and weighs about 14 pounds.

Annie has had her first two puppy vaccinations and will receive the last one, soon. She is too young right now to be spayed.

Annie is on Sentinel, the monthly tablet given to protect her from getting heartworms and fleas.
